Festive Monogram Votives

November 30, 2015

With the holidays whizzing in & out many things need to be done. Tables need to be set. Moods need to be made. Long relaxing baths need to be taken. Enough said.

The Cellar Gold Monogram Votives

This is where festive {fancy} votives come into play.

This post was/is inspired by a golden votive display at Macy's with their Cellar brand initial votives in the color combinations of gold & tope. Of course, I purchased a 'K' votive, but wouldn't these candle holders be lovely spelling out 'Noel' or 'Merry' in the center of a festive dinner table?

I certainly think so, but you can see the below & pick one for yourself!

Black {Fuchsia} Friday with Marley Lilly

November 27, 2015

If its not moving, MONOGRAM IT!
Black Friday. It sounds just as scary {& daunting} as it can actually be. Swarms of hurried, stressed shoppers looking for limited quantity deals.

Created via Pic Lab
Both bustling shoppers {& retailers} are up in the wee hours of the morning, running on false hope, adrenaline, & Starbucks.

However, Black Friday doesn't have to be this way. Obviously, you believe this too since you came to The Yellow Specs on the most busiest shopping day of the year.

Going forward, lets scratch the name Black Friday & call it Fuchsia Friday, because The Yellow Spectacles has teamed up with the one-stop-monogram-shop, Marley Lilly to bring you some seasonal {& personalized} sales/deals. No waiting inline is required!

Free gift with $100.00 Purchase!
Thanksgiving has passed {although I am still full} & now, its 100% Holiday go-time. To me, the best gift{s} are the ones with the most thought. What better way to say, I really thought about you than by giving something monogramed?

ML is sold exclusively online out of South Carolina
I know, you're stumped--there isn't a better gift! Marley Lilly really has the thoughtful gift giving thing in the {Santa's} sack.

They have a selection from fleece monogramed vests all the way down to customized chic car key rings. ML is just as affordable as they are stylish.

My monogram vest is a size Medium
The best part is that ML is in the Fuchsia {Black} Friday spirit by offering a FREE blanket scarf with any $100.00 purchase. There will be three blanket scarves to pick from!

In this post, I was gifted with ML's Monogram Vest in Dark Green with White monograming.
It's a super soft, heavy, warm, & durable fleece material made from 100% polyester. My favorite aspect {aside from the monogram} is that the vest has two outside zipped pockets, big enough to hold my keys & phone. Plus, there are also two interior pockets.

Soft & Cozy
If green isn't your color, the vests come in everything from pink to white. I just maybe sporting this as I test the shopping crowds later on today.

Greatful for Target & Plaid

November 25, 2015

Threshold Stuffed Deer Head

Are you prepping your table & home for Thanksgiving 2015? Frantically, are your fretting on what to dress your home, table{s}, lines, & decor in?

No worries, TYS was was inspired to host the idea of a Thanksgiving Day Plaid Party {with a little help from Target} & their plaid the best way possible!

If you have been inside a Target store lately {or the past month 1/2} you already noticed that they have went a bit mad with plaid. I am not complaining, as plaid is a great print for the colder months.

Mostly, Target's plaid comes from their latest store/designer collaboration, with designer, Adam Lippes. Lippes, a New York based designer has a mini plaid infused line at the bull's eye store consisting of home goods, clothing, apparel, & pet products.

Mostly, these items come in checkerboards of reds, blues, gray, black, & white. All of which are very seasonal. Feel free to shop this holiday plaid post & take inspiration to a few plaid essentials I picked up at my local Target.

Aside from Lippes' line, Target's Threshold brand has a cute selection of basically plaid anything.

Seasonal Threshold Mugs
Target is the only place where you can find bath/beauty essentials such as Listerine in a plaid bottles/packaging. Genius!

Gourds Make for a Great Centerpiece

From The Yellow Spectacles, have a very Happy & Hearty Thanksgiving!

Through Her Specs: North Left Coast, Martha Kay

November 18, 2015

A glance through their specs

Meet Martha Kay. She is the lovely{& beautiful}Vancouver, Canada native & blogger behind the nautical prep blog, North Left Coast.

Martha Kay, North Left Coast

By Martha Kay's social media following, her content rich blog, & starkly picturesque photos you'd think she has been a blogging pro for a longtime. In fact, by nights & weekends Martha Kay is a blogger--In her everyday life, she is a Registered Nurse!

When she's not in scrubs {that's what nurse call them, right?} she is mingling in preppy/lux brands {think, Ralph Lauren, YSL, & Burberry}. Her coastal style is mixed with an equestrienne, earthy yet sophisticated vibe.

What might be the most unique aspect of Martha Kay's blog is that she includes a color pallet from the outfit{s} she featured in the post. Cool right?

Right. In a round of 5 questions, get to know Martha Kay & her blog, North Left Coast.

The Yellow Spectacles: What made you want to start blogging?
Martha Kay: I've been an avid blog reader for a couple years, especially fashion and lifestyle blogs. Back in the fall of 2014 I decided to create an Instagram account where I featured my favorite bloggers on a daily basis.
I posted a photo of one blogger every day and wrote a little blurb about why I loved their style. At around that same time in my life, I was starting to desire a creative outlet outside of my job as a nurse.
I've always loved writing, fashion, design and photography and I was starting to look for ways to incorporate these passions of mine into my daily life. Eventually I thought that starting my own blog would be the perfect next step! I was already a blog fanatic and starting my own would be the perfect way to get creative!

TYS: Your blog title, North Left Coast is so intriguing! How did you come up with the name?
MK:  I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, and where I'm from is a huge part of who I am. I wanted my blog title to represent myself, my home, my lifestyle and my taste in fashion.
The way I dress and the things I do are all heavily influenced by coastal living and the pacific northwest. Even if I travel a lot or move to another city, my blog title still represents who I am and where I was raised. I used the word Left rather than West because it seemed unique!

"I've always loved writing, fashion, design and photography and I was starting to look for ways to incorporate these passions of mine into my daily life"-Martha Kay.

TYS: Can you give other bloggers advice about capturing images for their blog?
MK: Although I'm no photography expert, my advice for capturing product pictures would be to use natural lighting, an all-white backdrop and a good quality camera if possible. I always increase the exposure, brightness and saturation during editing. I use a Canon Rebel t3i and a 50mm lens for the most part.

"I was already a blog fanatic and starting my own would be the perfect way to get creative!"-Martha Kay

TYS: In 3 words your blog is...
MK: Nautical. Classic. Bright.

TYS: One major goal you have for North Left Coast is...
MK: I would like to feel creatively stimulated and fulfilled, and I would love for other people to feel inspired!

Merci, Martha Kay!

Feather Pen DIY

November 16, 2015

To be a glamorous writer/blogger/girl boss {lol} you'll need one knock-out of a pen. Why not go old school & create a glam feather pen?

Except, this feather pen won't be dull, but it will be sparkly & well, glamorous.

It's so easy to make {except for the feather} you probably already have all the items at home to make this quill pen.

After you have adhered your pen to your quill, you can customize the pen with any type of ribbon & sparkles you want. I went with a silver & white theme, but you can do black & gold--pink & gold--the options are endless.

I went ahead & added some sequins to the actual feather with small beads of glue to give it an extra shinning look.

What now? The glam pen is completed. How about penning your dream Christmas list? Oh wait, I already did.

Happy DIY-ing.

A Glance Through Citrus & Style's Specs

November 13, 2015

Friends, followers, fellow blog oglers, meet Caroline. The preppy {& citrusy} blogger behind the colorful lifestyle blog, Citrus & Style.

Along with Caroline's unique/vibrant way of blogging her fun passions for tennis, navy & white stripes, monograms & other sophisticated resort prep things are among the many reasons why The Yellow Spectacles wanted to see life through Caroline's specs {rather sunnies}.

Caroline, a soon-to-be high school graduate blogs beyond her years with style & grace. She dishes daily on healthy living, fab finds, & overall, fun ideas.

Basically, if you feel the need to be rejuvenated--pop on over to Citrus & Style.

Let's take a look to see what keeps Caroline rejuvenated...

Citrus & Style
The Yellow Spectacles: Can you describe your personal style in 5 words or less?
Caroline: I would call my style, classic preppy with a twist. I love bright colors and crisp pieces, but sometimes it's fun to try a trendy bootie or something.

TYS: Now can you do the same for your blogging style?
C: My blogging style is exactly how I would talk to my friends & people around me. I try to keep it easy going, friendly, and positive.

TYS: What made you want to start blogging?
C: I have always been passionate about style, organizations, and helping others. So, starting a blog for me, was a way to write it all down! Who would have thought four years later, it would be such a big part of my life?

TYS: Can you recall the most important piece of knowledge you obtain via blogging?
C: The most important thing I have realized is, finding my personal brand. I have {as cliche as it sounds} myself [too]. It became clear to me that the things I write about {fashion, fitness, organizations, & good balance}  are key parts of my life...Blogging is truly what I love to do being able to earn a little money while doing so, is like a dream!

TYS: You are a high school senior, is blogging in the after graduation plans..?
C: For sure! No matter how busy I get, blogging helps me center myself & focus on what I value. I always hope to take it to the next level & have it on the side to whatever career I pursue.

Thank You, Caroline!

Sparkles & Spots: Sparkle & Whim Jewels

November 11, 2015

This & every Holiday Season we {us ladies} like to shine just as bright, if not brighter than the most illuminated Christmas tree with our bling, sparkle, & glitter.

Whether it is by our makeup, clothing, or accessories the Holidays bring out our sparkly side. If you are looking to add a little Holiday glitz to your personal sparkle/style this season maybe you need to visit Sparkle & Whim.

Sparkle & Spots
Certainly, the online jewelry jewel box has something to add a bit of bling to your oversized Christmas sweater.

A necklace? Earrings? Bracelets & rings? Yep. Yep. Check. Check. Sparkle & Whim has it covered with their glitzy {& affordable selection} of wearable accessories .

Statement pieces: bracelet & necklace

The jewel business started not too long ago, back in 2014. Their mission is to, "bring fabulous fashion jewelry pieces to every girl.

Certainly, S&W is doing just that. The Yellow Specs was lucky enough to receive a few sparkly items via snail mail to sample.

& while I'll let the pictures do most of the talking--I will also let the leading {& only} Sparkle & Whim girl boss, Meg Allen do a little chatting too.

hint/ hint. There is a lot of sparkly & female empowering shop talk involved...

The Yellow Spectacles: Can you briefly tell me how Sparkle & Whim came to be?
Sparkle & Whim:  Sparkle & Whim was an idea that had been growing in my mind for a while.  I kept thinking it would be such a great way to combine the retail skills I have learned over the years, with something that truly gives me joy.
Last year, I decided to go for it!  While I do maintain my "day job", I love Sparkle & Whim for the creative outlet that it gives me.
I love having something that I can totally put my stamp on and that reflects who I am.  When I showed one of my friends the site for the first time, she said, "Oh, it's so 'you'!"  And that's how I knew it was right :)

TYS: In your mind, who is/what does the Sparkle and Whim girl look like?
S&W: I like to think that the Sparkle & Whim girl could be any girl!  Sometimes she likes to sparkle with statement pieces, sometimes she's classic with a simple cuff or a monogram necklace.

"I pick all of the pieces myself, so they are all close to my heart"-Meg.

TYS: Since you're in the jewelry business, is there one piece that every girl/women should own?
S&W: I think it's different for each person.  Everyone has their own personality, and what they choose to wear reflects that. I find that I will become temporarily obsessed with certain pieces.  I'll wear them every day for weeks, or even months, and then one day I'll just move on to another piece.  So many things can effect the pieces we choose, from mood to season to environment, so our choices are ever changing.

"We say, put on the bling, drink the champagne, & laugh until the tears roll down"-Sparkle & Whim.

TYS: What is your most popular item?
S&W: The monogram collection took off so quickly in such a huge way!  I was so excited when we added them, but I never could have expected such a positive response!  I think our girl is drawn to them because there are so many different options and the price points are so amazing :)

TYS: How do you stay current in a world of competitors?
S&W: Honestly, I try not to pay too much attention to competitors. Obviously, there are others sites similar to ours, but none have the exact feel that we do. That's what makes us unique.  I pick all of the pieces myself, so they are all close to my heart.
My favorite part of this whole process is the buying. I pick pieces that I like, that I would wear.  There's nothing on the site that I wouldn't put on myself.  I think our girl responds to that and likes to come back to see what's new.

TYS: The holidays are coming, what are you {Sparkle & Whim} doing to get ready/sell? Anything festive or special?
S&W: The holidays are really the most fun time for jewelry, aren't they?!  Girls tend to go pretty simple in the warmer months, but holiday time is when the sparkle really comes out!  We will definitely be adding more statement pieces as we approach the season :)

The "Emma" Necklace
TYS: Other than your website, is there other places where shoppers can find you?
S&W: We just celebrated our first birthday (YAY!!).  One of our goals for the coming year is to start doing trunk shows and shopping events.  Stay tuned!

TYS: One thing you'd like others to know about Sparkle and Whim?
S&W: While I use the words "we" and "our" all the time when referring to the site, it really is just me!  As it continues to grow, I'm sure that will change, but right now, Sparkle & Whim is (as I said above) my creative outlet and I love the opportunities it gives me every day to learn new things (soooo many new things!) and to meet such amazing new friends!

What a girl wants...

TYS: In three words Sparkle and Whim is...
S&W: Fun, fashionable, and SPARKLY!!!

TYS: One fashion/jewelry trend you are loving is..., why?
S&W: Hmmm, that's a tough one!  I love the bar necklaces that I'm seeing on everyone.  I've been wearing my Roman numeral necklace a lot lately!  I think they're so great because you can wear them just on their own, or layer them with other delicate necklaces.
Also, they can be plain or you can personalize them with a name, an initial, or just a word to make them really special :)

I know what statement necklace I'll be wearing while I am sipping the Christmas punch--do you?

For more whimsical sparkle, read Meg's blog, What Sparkles Now.

Merci, Sparkle & Whim!
