Ho-Hum or Holly Jolly, December is officially here. No doubt, you are on one end of the holiday spectrum. One side, holly-jolly. The other side is filled with holiday dread.
I have been on both ends, which is why I am always a bit cautious to not over-romanticize the season or really put a hardcore Grinch spin on it.
I think for me, if my holidays had more variety {go figure a season honored for traditions} I would feel more excited for what's to come. No matter, I dedicate this time to letting my dogs enjoy the season & doing something nice for someone else.
Without further adieu, here are five things to love about December.
1. A NYC Christmas: During my high school/college years, I really had a love affair with New York City {I blame Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, & glossy magazine bylines}. Since then, that has cooled down, but I do love a city Christmas. This article lists all of the fun things you can do in New York City during the holidays.
2. An Act of Random Kindness: Not going to lie, I get grumpy this time of year. However, I try to do something, even if it is little, unexpectedly nice. This is always good no matter the season, but if you notice someone is struggling, a little gesture goes a long way.
3. Holiday Jazz: Do Christmas tunes get on anyone else's nerves? I find instrumental Christmas Jazz to be relaxing, but still festive.
4. Christmas Scents: I know Christmas drinks are big right now. However, fun home fragrances, that smell like peppermint, Balsam Fir, pine, cookies, & gingerbread are all welcomed scents in my home. I know there are probably fancier places to get Christmas home scents, but I like Glade & Bath and Body Works' Christmas scents.
5. 1st Snow: Me, talking about snow in a positive light is shocking. However, the first snow, usually in December can be magical {will I regret writing this}. I am trying to be more mindful about each season I am in & embracing the good-bad-& all that comes along with it.
Also, on the Winter Solstice, December 21st, the days gradually get longer--that's a happy thought!
