Mermaid Popsicle Sticks: Summertime Craft

"Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could fathom it; many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. There dwell the Sea King & his subjects."--The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christain Anderson

As long as I can recall maybe age four, definitely by age six, I have just loved mermaids. Still do. As the Summer Solstice nears, Sunday, June 20th, I wanted to make a summertime DIY encompassing two things I love, summer & mermaids.

A while back, on Pinterest, I saw Mermaid Popsicle Sticks pop in my feed. Knowing how simple this craft would be, I saved it to make this summer.  I was able to get all supplies {aside from craft paint at the Dollar Tree}.

Mermaid Popsicle Sticks Method:

Firstly, paint your mermaid aka popsicle stick the skin color you wish. After the skin tone base has been painted & dried, paint the bottom half of the popsicle stick the color you want her tail to be.

For her shells, I used the bottom end of my paintbrush to make two dots, colors that coordinate with her tail. You can repeat these steps for her eyes & mouth.

After the paint is dry, I added a clear coat of paint & let it dry. For her hair, colorful yarn {I did about three to four strands} hot glued to the top of her head. I added star shape beads & other gems as accessories for the mermaid popsicle sticks' hair.

For her tail, I used my Cricut Joy & cut out mermaid tail shapes {you can draw it too} & hot glued the fins to the end of the popsicle sticks.

That's it, it's a pretty simple summertime craft. After the mermaid popsicle sticks were done, I displayed them on what is really, a photo stand, with a seashell base.
