Escape the Daily Grind & Meet Me on Captiva Island

On Florida's Southwest Coast, overlooking the waters of the Gulf of Mexico is a sleepy ocean town known as Captiva Island.

Captiva is as captivating as one can imagine. The daily bustles that plague life with busyness & traffic are replaced with tokens from Nature as well as the simple pleasures in life.

It's not unusual to awake on the island to see seagulls lolling along the skyline where the clouds kiss the ocean. Lunch near the pier witnessing herrings lurk in shallow waters for their pray is a constant fixture. Of course, evenings are for show as dolphin dance while the tiring sun sinks just beyond the horizon.

On Captiva Island, life is a beach & its visitors are just relaxing in the sun. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a press trip to Captiva & Sanibel Island to experience two of Fort Myers Florida beautiful beaches.

Here, I relaxed by the pool, went on a boat to a private island & shelled for shells {I found a few sand dollars}, had seafood for dinner, & experienced a slower pace of living for a few days with a few fellow journalists.

While I was there for work {writing a Red Tide article for Coastal Living} I got to soak up the best of Southwest Florida during my stay. So, I am sharing some of the highlights with you as now is prime time to visit the islands during offseason!

At first, I was a bit miffed that my wifi wasn't strong & there weren't many shopping opportunities on the island.  However, after getting used to a 'slower' lifestyle within the course of my stay, I realized that fact was actually okay.

Escaping & unplugging {for a bit} is exactly what you need every now & again. The sea has plenty to say & share--you just have to be open to stop & listen to see what she has to say.

Over the next few blog posts, I am sharing a travel-friendly product guide as well as a beach house series. Stay tuned & enjoy some tropical vibes in the midst of the snow & cold.

  2. It looks like you had a great time here in Florida. Isn't it pretty much the best? I am partially biased to the sunshine state because I live here, but I can't say I have been to Captiva Island before. I will have to add that to my summer list of road trip ideas (:

Great post Katelyn! I can't wait to keep up with your blog in 2019!
