Most Used & Versatile Sony Camera Lens: Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm
This post is for all my camera & camera gear lovers, sharing my favorite {work lens} the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm.
When it comes to camera gear, the saying goes, the best camera is the camera on you. However, photography lovers know {& understand} the constant quest for new-bigger-better gear. True, that isn't always the best mindset to have as opposed to the latter. However, I think with growth as a photographer, you grow into your photography style over time as you practice, experiment, learn, & evolve.
As a growing photographer {BTW you're always growing} not only does your subject taste change, but the type of gear you use & carry does as well. Some photographers migrate toward smaller & minimal photography kits. Others learn what focal lengths they like {I like a 50mm &up} & focal lengths they don't like.
Other photographers become keen on one variety of lens brands over the others. Enter Zeiss lenses {specifically for Sony E Mount cameras}. This is a very my-own-experience-personal photography style review/explanation on the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm.
I have to say, I love the look of photos taken with a Zeiss lens--I love the build of Zeiss lenses too. So much so, that I am in the process of switching my lenses to Zeiss lenses so my photos are all consistent & have that Zeiss look. The photos are vibrant in color, often punchier in color, & sharp.

What is the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm?
The Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm is a full-frame lens for Sony E-Mount cameras. This lens can be used on Sony cropped APS-Cameras which gives you a 35mm focal range of 36mm--105mm. Personally, this is my primary work/blogging lens on my FF Sony A7c. This Zeiss lens has the VARIO-TESSAR Optical Lens Design, aperture f/4-f/22, Zeiss T* Anti-Reflective Coating, 67mm Diameter Filyer Thread, Auto Focus, Optical Steady Shot, Dust & Weather Sealed & is a great every day &/or travel lens.
Why I Love My Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm
If you know anything about photography, you know that an f/4 lens isn't the faster or most valued lens in kits--many opt for a zoom lens of f/2.8 {which is often heavier & pricier} However, shooting outdoors, on a tripod indoors with a strong light source, I often shoot at f/4.5 & higher. I have shot mostly all my product-lifestyle photos with this lens & my current blog images. Working with a new Sony camera body, the f/4 aperture has never bothered me--again, that is all up to each photographer's taste, but the image quality of a Zeiss lens makes up for it.
The build, image quality, & focal length of 24mm-70mm is another reason why I adore this lens--you can photograph a bit of everything--& if you use it on your crop sensor Sony camera{s} you get even more reach. I don't have to change the lens to get 'different' focal lengths or a varied perspective--to me, this is a very one-and-done lens.
Where to Buy the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm
This isn't a new lens{circa 2014}--so, if you're someone who wants to latest & the greatest, it probably isn't for you. However, old isn't bad--you can get this lens for under $500.00 on used camera gear sites like MPB.com
Hot tips, shop for the 'new' model that reads just ZEISS on the front of the lens by the lens thread. The older edition reading Carl Zeiss had issues.
I also find blogs by Sony/Zeiss photographer Professor Hines to be really useful--especially for Zeiss lovers.
If you have any additional questions about the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm, feel free to ask. below, I have included RAW photos taken with the Zeiss Vario Tessar 4/24-70mm & lightly edited in Lightroom.
