Holden Arboretum: Is It a Great Day Trip?

Holden Arboretum: Is It a Great Day Trip?

3,600 acres of botanical gardens, large ponds, arboreta, a scenic Canopy Walk amongst the trees, & an Emergent Tower above the treetops makes up Holden Arboretum located in Kirkland, Ohio.

Self-proclaimed, "Where people connect with trees & plants" is a great day-trip option for anyone who likes to be surrounded by nature, family-friendly, photography-enthusiasts, as well as senior-citizen friendly.

With COVID still keeping many out of crowded closed-in places, perhaps, Holden Arboretum is the perfect nature outing you've been wanting.

Two of their standout attractions are the:

Murch Canopy Walk where you can literally get a drone-eye shot {without the drone} walking a 500-foot canopy bridge in the trees at 65 feet high!

Kalberer Emergent Tower

Kalberer Emergent Tower where a 12 story tall walk-up tower allows viewers to get a bird's eye view of the scenic area. If you look in the distance direction, you can even spot Lake Errie!

Aside from towers and canopy walks, there are plenty of plants, flowers, & foliage to spot as well as squirrels, birds, & a butterfly garden come spring/summer.

The reason why I ask if it's the perfect day trip is that it is in a very tame space. Pro-tip goes on a weekday to avoid long lines & crowds of folks. I believe Tuesdays, seniors get in for a cheaper price. If you're looking for a scenic, peaceful, & very chill outing/experience, this would make for a great day trip.

However, if you're like me & the pandemic has tempted your dare-devil, let's go kayaking or zip-lining appetite, then this trip may be a little tame for you.

I would say Holden Arboretum would be great to visit when the area is in its prime for 'spring blooms' or 'peak fall foliage' season{s}. I was there in mid-October & none of the leaves changed yet-which was disappointing.

All in all, it's all about what you like & the style in which you do. Holden Arboretum is a great destination for a fun family outing. However, if you're seeking a bit of a 'rush' maybe a bit too serene for you.

Keep in mind, prior to arriving or arriving at the gate, you do have to buy tickets. $15.00 for Adults & $10.00 for Children.
