Snowed In & Making the Most of It

Snowed In & Making the Most of It

winter in Ohio
Winter Storm Fern

Ohio really showed off this week. We went from a blanket of snow to that sharp, bitter cold that makes you question every decision to leave the house. I think Martha's Blog, she called it Winter Storm Fern. Anyways, it's the kind of cold where even the dogs step outside, reconsider, and sprint right back in like absolutely not.

So instead of braving the roads, I leaned into staying home — which honestly feels like a seasonal ritual at this point. I spent the day finding little ways to stay busy around the house: tidying up corners I usually ignore, editing photos on my phone, and moving from room to room with a warm drink like it was a planned activity.

Naturally, soup made an appearance. Because at some point during a snowstorm, every American is legally obligated to make a pot of soup. It’s comforting, practical, and somehow makes the house feel warmer just by existing on the stove.

The dogs have been… entertained-ish. Indoor fetch, tug-of-war, and a lot of looking out the window at the snow they refuse to step into. It’s a strange balance between burning off their energy and accepting that today is just an inside day.

These photos are all straight from my iPhone — quiet little moments of winter at home. Nothing fancy. Just proof that even when the world outside feels frozen, there’s still plenty happening indoors: warm food, restless pups, and the soft kind of busy that makes winter feel manageable.

Sometimes winter isn’t about going anywhere at all — it’s about settling in and making the cold days feel lived in.
