What-to-Wear: A Colorful Spring & Summer Trend Report

In high school & college {writing for school newspapers} I used to write fashion & trend articles all the time...now writing for various websites not-so-much. Typically, I am doing product roundups, listicles, home trends, & lifestyle type of articles...so, I am excited to write a fashion-forward post here.

If you keep up with trends, you'll notice how retail is always a year (more-likely two) behind. For example, wicker & straw bags, some of the biggest bloggers & fashionista were carrying them two-summers ago & finding your own straw bag {hello, the circle one} at an affordable price was hard. Today, however, you can find them pretty much everywhere at a cheaper price-point too.

Looking toward the sunny months ahead these are some trends I am predicting to be popular well into next summer too {thanks, retail...}

Small & Cat-Eye Sunnies

Perhaps, you've seen Bella & Gigi Hadid & Kendall Jenner all wearing the super small cat-eye sunglasses on the tips of their nose? The cat-eye/retro small shades are really trendy. Not all major retailers are on-board with this trend {next year, boo} but Amazon & Charlotte Russe has them! The key is to wear these frames on the end-of-your-nose!

Colors: Gen X Yellow & Lilac

Blush/Millenial Pink is still color-supreme {wew, I'm a millenial}. While retail {hello, Target} has really jumped on the blush trend the next two colors that I promise will be big are Gen X Yellow & Lilac. Soft/pale purples & punchy/sunny yellows are cool and chic to wear. It's no surprise that lilac is on the rise with Pantone crowing Ultra Violet Purple the color of 2018, but I'm very excited for more yellows to get mixed in--hey, this is The Yellow Spectacles after all. P.S. If you like yellow/Gen X yellow you'll like my Pinterest Board All things Yellow.

Belt Bags

Some of us really tried to bring the fanny pack back. Unless it's Coachella, fanny packs really aren't that cool. The belt bag, however--those are pretty chic. High-end designers like Gucci have some pretty amazing belt bags & we've seen SJP wear her Chanel belt-bag everwhere, but thankfully stores like Forever 21 have affordable & cute options.

Two Pieces

Two-piece sets are the new romper & jumpsuit. Whether it's a cute crop-top matching set or an almost two-piece with a delicate cutout in the bodice {like this super cute gingham one} are all right-on-trend.

Classic Pattern

Of course, stripes never age. In fact, they get better with age. For spring & summer, vibrant stripes paired with white or thicker/cabana stripes are always playful. This stripe skort I am wearing is from Sydney Elizabeth Design's Spring 2018 collection. It has pockets on both sides! Use code: KATELYN for 30% your SED order
