Happy Feet: Pom Pom DIY Sandals

July 18, 2016

Pom Poms have taken over social media. Literally, they are on bags, cover-ups, pool totes, & of course, those super fun sandals.

I have to say, each blogger that wears these fun beauties on their feet looks so so cute, but these shoes can be a bit pricey--if you can afford them {there are more reasonable ones starting to pop-up}that's awesome, but I decided to do a little Pinterest {@katelynachef}snooping and make some Pom Pom Sandals of my very own.

I took a few cues from what others pinned / created, but ultimately decided to go my own route with bright pom-poms and bold beads. The whole point is to buy in-expensive sandals that you can embellish yourself. I found a few below--places like Target, Charlotte Ruse, & Forever 21 are a few ideas.

You'll Need:

  • Basic Sandals-Mine were $12 same thing HERE
  • Pom Poms/Beads-fun bold colors-craft store
  • Elastic string {I bought bright pink} found in the jewelry making aisle of the craft store: Here
  • A large sewing needle
  • Hot glue/glue-gun
  • 1/3 yard of fun trim

The steps are pretty basic to follow...

Take your sandal {one at a time} & pick what embellishments you want to add. I used the needle to thread the elastic string through the pom-pom and tied it on to each part of the sandal I wanted to embellish.

I picked hot-pink string, because it goes with those whole BOHO look, but also it is easy to see/thread.

The beads were easier to add--just thread the string through and secure the beads to the sandal.

After all your decorations are attached to your shoes --it takes a while--I went back over everything and dabbed a dot of hot glue to the bottom of each embellishment --for extra hold.

The tops of the sandals was super easy to DIY. Go to the fabric/trim section of the craft store & buy not even a 1/2 yard of trim that you like. Secure your trim with hot glue & your feet are all set to have everyone ask you...

Pom Pom Sandal DIY

"Were did you get those shoes?'' & You'll say, "I made them!"

I have also provide actual Pom-Pom shoes for inspiration & in case, crafting isn't your thing. They are all cute no matter which way you decide.

Follow me on Instagram @katelynchef more ways I styled these sandals & tag me if you make your own! I wanna see!!

Post Update: Since writing this, I added another layer of (pink tassels) trim to the shoe's top-I think it gives the shoe a more 'authentic,' fun, tribal look.
